Summary: In Year 5, students will combine the knowledge obtained in the previous years of MYP and use it to plan for performance of a community event, to coach peers and peer-teach younger students in different sports.  They will continue to explore functional movement concepts throughout the duration of the course. In addition, students will also become more familiar with personal health concepts

Aims: As stated in the MYP PHE guide, the aims of MYP PHE are to encourage and enable students to:

Assessment Criteria
At the end of year five, students should be able to:
A
Knowing and Understanding
I. Explain physical and health education factual, procedural and conceptual knowledge.
II. Apply physical and health education knowledge to analyse issues and solve problems set in familiar and unfamiliar situations.
III. Apply physical and health terminology effectively to communicate understanding. 
B
Planning for Performance
I. Develop goals to enhance performance.
II. Design, explain and justify a plan to improve physical performance and health.
C
Applying and Performing
I. Demonstrate and apply a range of skills and techniques effectively.
II. Demonstrate and apply a range of strategies and movement concepts effectively.
III. Analyse and apply information to perform effectively.
D
Reflecting and Improving Performance
I. Explain and demonstrate strategies to enhance interpersonal skills.
II. Analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of a plan based on the outcome.
III. Analyse and evaluate performance. 
 
Required materials:
  • PE kit (sports shoes, clean trainers, PE shirt (not the regular shirt worn during the school day), socks; if outside, a hat is required.
  • Special activities (i.e. swimming) will have specialized PE kit announced prior to the start of the unit of inquiry.
