In the previous weeks, students were working on the unit of inquiry How We Express Our-
selves – ‘Celebrations’ as a connection to their learning in the homeroom. We started the
unit with celebrating ourselves through conversations about who we are and what we like.
Students continued to learn through hands on activities and while doing so they were hav-
ing class discussions and individual conversations with each other and the teachers about
what they like to use in art for creating pieces of art. Since an ongoing reflection is the
most appropriate tool for this age group, students continued to reflect on their works.
Students were drawing, painting and creating collages, play dough sculptures and paper
sculptures. Through these activities, children were creating pieces of art that reflect their
love for their family members and friends with whom they like to celebrate. They also cre-
ated ‘food’ for their celebrations and dragon masks.
December is the month when our Arts Program celebrates student learning, and we would
like to invite you to our Winter Show! The Winter Show will take place in the gym of the
Upper School on December 17th. There you will be able to see the entire Lower School’s
students singing and dancing as well as their individual and group pieces of art. We look
forward to seeing you there!
