ISB Lower School Specialists’ Newsletter

French

Dear fourth grade parents,

Here is the fifth newsletter for the French class in order to keep you informed about
the things we have been learning during the last period.

Since you have last heard from us, we started working on our new Unit: “How We
Organize Ourselves - Response to Natural Disasters.” At the beginning, we reviewed
some of the vocabulary we learned earlier (emotions and action verbs). We also add-
ed some new vocabulary and structures to express obligation (Il faut+infinitive – One
Dubravka Kostanjsek should/must…). Right now, we are working on our posters in order to give other peo-
French Teacher
ple advice on how to behave in case of various natural disasters. The students are
working in pairs and each pair chose a natural disaster to work on (tsunami, hurri-
cane, volcanic eruption and earthquake). When this is done, each pair will present
their work to the rest of the class.

It will be my pleasure to see you at any time to discuss your child’s work and pro-
gress.

Thank you for your time and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

EAL

Grade 4 Beginner

Over the past month we have been working on a combination of skills in class. We
have continued our work with improving reading skills. Along with reading early chap-
ter books we have also been reading informational text on different kinds of natural
Kelly Campbel disasters. We are using this research as a springboard for writing and are in the process
EAL Teacher of finishing a report on the causes and effects of earthquakes and tsunamis. This as-

signment also gave us the chance to integrate academic vocabulary and unit of inquiry
study into our writing. Over the week we have been incorporating new grammar rules
as well as practicing previously taught content.
