The Kindergartners continued to learn about the sounds of letters
and gradually progressed to identifying vowel sounds in the medial
position in short words. We continued to play sequencing games,
learning to use sentence starters and story endings, and how to link
information using connectives like first, second, then, after, finally
and in the end. The children drew pictures showing situations in
which they were courageous – ranging from visiting the doctor and
getting shots, visiting the dentist and having to open wide, learning
to swim, to performing in front of a large audience at the Winter
Show. The students learned to count and read numbers and figure
out which number is larger than six but smaller than eight. Com-
menting on the number line, one little girl wisely stated that num-
bers never end. Symmetry is a very popular concept that Kinder-
gartners are addressing, and the children made fantastic symmet-
rical shapes using blocks, drawings and mirrors.
