May was a vibrant month in the grade two music classroom.
Students looked back at all they learned this school year, and
aimed to apply all the numerous skills gained. They read mu-
sic symbols, played in band, and tried to recognize a variety
of sounds.
Having been inspired by Sting’s tune “Fragile”, students
worked on melodic patterns on their recorders and xylo-
phones, accompanying that way the legendary tune. The em-
phasis was on expression, as well as tempo changes. Stu-
dents also explored Swahili language, in “Baba Yetu” song by
Christopher Tin. They accompanied the song with percussion
instruments, creating their own versions of the song.
Congratulations on the wonderful year, second graders! Stay
great musicians over the summer as well!
