Dear Parents,
In the previous weeks, students were working on the single subject unit of inquiry ‘Where
We Are in Place and Time,’ while exploring sculpture in past and present time.
Group 4B students looked into ancient sculpture and chose to learn about Maoi sculpture.
Group 4A looked into contemporary sculpture and decided to learn about two 20th century
sculptors, Brancusi and Calder. When they finish with learning about the art style of their
choice, students will learn about the style the other grade four group chose. That way every
group of students has an opportunity to contribute to creating the unit.
Having in mind how different the art styles are, that was an excellent opportunity for explo-
ration of those through use of variety of materials. Students have been very excited about
the unit, which resulted with very creative findings. Students have been learning about cre-
ating sculptures with materials such as: clay, paper, and wood.
