Physical Education

Throughout February, Kindergarteners focused on improving their hand -eye and general
body coordination.

Kindergarteners had the opportunity to work with hockey sticks, scoops and jump ropes.

As always, safety was of great importance for us, so we started by practicing the proper Marija Dimitrov
PE Teacher
grip of the equipment and learning how to handle them carefully with a group of peers.

Some activities were done individually; such as ball control with the hockey stick and
scoops, to help students improve their gross motor skills, while others were focused more
on cooperation and working as a team.

In the group jump-rope activities we made great progress in anticipating the right
time to jump and we became much better at spinning the rope for our friends.

Before taking part in floor hockey games, students were introduced to very basic
game rules and were reminded about the importance of working as a team and
displaying appropriate behavior towards other players. For our Kindergarten stu-
dents, aside from passing and trapping the ball, it was fun to shoot into the goal
and try to “overplay” the goal keeper.

EAL

We have had some changes over the past month to our EAL groups. We now have two
groups that will receive pull out support during the week to help with beginning literacy.
We are currently focusing on word families and blending three letter words together.
We have started with the short /a/ vowel sound and will continue working our way
through the short vowel sounds. I am sending home little booklets that can stay at home Kelly Campbell
for continued practice. We are also working on writing simple sentences with basic sight EAL Teacher
words.
