Music

Kindergarteners continued responding to different tunes with movement. Inspired
by Tchaikovsky’s Sugar Plum Fairy, we choreographed our own Toy Shop Dance.
Aside from responding to music with movement, we also analyzed music - looking
at different forms and recognizing different instruments. Students were familiarized
with Gustav Mahler’s symphony and the workings of the symphonic orchestra.

In addition, students sang Sad King and A Little Magic Goes In Wrong Way using Music Teacher
classroom instruments as accompaniment. Our composers of the month were Bob-
by McKerrin, Pachelbel, Chopin, and Strauss.

Movement & Dance

As a connection to the PYP unit Simple Machines, we read and discussed a book
What Makes Things Move by Althea. The book is about forces, motion and ener-
gy, and it helped us improve our understanding of all the conditions that affect
movement of objects and living things. Then, we explored how movements can
be linked to create sequences. Students worked in small groups and used their

bodies to construct simple machines. This activity was an opportunity to practice M&D Teacher
communication and organizational skills – the students did great.
