Physical Education

Dear Parents,

In March the Kindergarten students kept working on improving their whole body and foot
coordination.

First, we utilized hula-hoops in our activities; placing them on the floor in different Marija Dimitrov
PE Teacher
patterns. We completed a variety of tasks while running, jumping and hopping through
hoops. Later, we added more props, such as balance beams, small benches, hurdles,
cones, risers and some standing hula-hoops in order to create different obstacle courses.

That is what we all liked a lot!

Through these obstacle courses, students worked on enhancing their coordination, speed
and agility.

Lately, students have been working on refining their throwing and
catching skills. We practiced individual and pair activities, as well new
games, such as Battleship, Clean your Backyard and Dodge-ball with
modified rules.

EAL

Kindergarten students have been hard at work reading, reading, and reading! The small
groups have been beneficial and we are beginning to see growth from the students. We
continue to work on blending words and focusing on short vowel sounds. We are now
beginning to work with basic sight words and hope to move toward some automaticity
with them. Not only are students reading but they spend some of each class writing as
Kelly Campbell
well. We work on correct letter formation, correct spacing and correct spelling of basic
EAL Teacher
sight words and small words they can sound out. We try to find some time each week to
play some games that reinforce the skills we are working on! Reading at home is very
beneficial at this beginning stage.
