Music

Using body socks, kindergartners worked on improvising, trying to depict a variety
of moods. To do that effectively, they first practiced basic movement patterns
which they would later enrich in order to make their own creations. Our inquiry
into movement continued with Peer Gynt’s “Dance of Trolls.” Our musician of the
month was famous conductor Simon Rattle. We looked into his performances such
as “The Chariot of Fire” with Mr. Bean at the opening of the Olympic Games as well Ljudmila Janicijevic
as “In the Hall of the Mountain King.” In addition, students sang “Rock My Soul” Music Teacher
and “Happy”, developing their vocal abilities. Lastly, using xylophones, students
worked on left and right hand coordination while practicing ostinato on C and G
sounds.

Movement & Dance

Kindergarten students are working on the PYP unit, Consequences. Our focus in
this unit is drama, and we discussed and explained the way ideas, feelings, and
experiences can be communicated through stories and performance. We devel-
oped short skits following the two ideas: arts have the power to influence think-
ing and behavior and we can communicate our ideas, feelings, and experiences
through our artwork. The main idea of our skits was protecting the nature. Stu-
dents did very well sending clear messages to the audience.

In addition, we continued practicing our body and gross motor skills. Students
enjoyed dancing like robots to the tune of Shimmy Shake. We practiced move-
ment patterns and each student had the opportunity to create a pattern and use
it in Follow the Leader. Also, we took advantage of our nice spring weather and
spent time outdoors playing cooperative games.
