Music

Implementing this year’s learning, fifth graders sang in parts concentrating on their pos-
ture, expression, dynamics, and interpretation. Playing classroom instruments, they fo-
cused on contrasting rhythmic lines and harmonic progression. We worked collaborative-
ly on the arrangement of the graduation song which you will soon be able to hear. Stu-
dents found inspiration in works of Simon Rattle, Carl Orff, Melody Gardot, and Arial Ljudmila Janicijevic
Ramirez. However, a definite highlight of the month for our grade five students was a Music Teacher
ballet performance of Aladdin that took place on our campus. Complementing our theme
of How Do We Express Ourselves, this performance was a perfect fit for us and a great
way to enrich students’ learning experience.

Physical Education

Our students took advantage of the sunny spring weather at the beginning of the month to
work on their track and field skills.

We started with running events, such as running middle and short distances. The main fo-
cus was on proper running technique, including our foot position and arm motions, as well
as on the importance of proper breathing. Students were involved in individual and pair Marija Dimitrov
activities in order to improve their technique and endurance, as well as to increase speed PE Teacher
and agility.

Since a good start is crucial for any race, especially for short distances, we practiced starting
on signals from different positions. Later, we took part in short distance races, as well as in
relay races. We practiced running with a baton along with a hand-off technique. Students
were very excited about these races: they all participated wholeheartedly, while being very
supportive to their team runners and displaying great sportsmanship towards other teams.

The biggest challenge was probably running hurdles, which were higher than the year be-
fore. After spending some time exercising the lead and trail leg, we got used to the height
of the hurdles and dared ourselves to run over them. Although some of the students had
doubts about completing the run, they all faced the challenge bravely and were eagerly
looking forward their next try!

We also worked on improving our jumping skills by practicing the broad, the long and the
high jumps. Our focus was on take-off and landing techniques, as well as on the approach to
the take-off area.

The end of the year Physical Fitness test is ahead of us. We have been working on our
stamina, strength, agility and flexibility, thus we all believe that we have improved
throughout the year.

Stay healthy through sports!
