Physical Education

Throughout May, Kindergarteners worked on improving their running and jumping abili-
ties in the Track and Field unit.

Starting on a designated signal and running short dashes from different position helped us
to increase our speed and agility. Through a variety of games, we were engaged into the
Marija Dimitrov
running for extended period of time, increasing our heart rate and improving our endur- PE Teacher
ance.

Our young athletes had a chance to try running over hurdles, and even though many of
them had doubts about completing a run, they all faced the challenge bravely and truly
enjoyed it.

Relay races with a baton were great fun for all kinder-
garteners. They displayed strong team spirit by running
their best, cheering for their team and supporting other
runners to complete the race.

Practicing the basics of broad and long-jump techniques,
we worked on improving our jumping abilities too. We
counted the number of jumps needed to reach the
length of the world’ long jump record and tried to beat
our own record with every attempt.

EAL

The new kindergarten reading groups have been working hard this month. We continued
to work on sounding out words as well as memorizing a small number of basic sight
words. Each reading assignment was generally reinforced with a similar writing skill. We
continued to play reading games at the end of each class. I am pleased to see the pro-
gress that these students are making and I hope that you are noticing, too in their nightly

reading. I cannot emphasize enough how important reading at home is, especially over

the long summer. It has been a pleasure working with kindergarten this year and hope
you have a great summer!
