Grade four students finished working on the single subject unit
of inquiry ‘How the World Works – Elements and Principles’.
In order to build their independence and learn more about the
use of elements and principles of art, students chose elements
and principles to add to their forms. Some students chose color,
some pattern, texture or line. Therefore, we worked with clay
and play dough so students could achieve their goals. Since the
weather served us well, on one occasion we went outside so
students could make sketches for their final tasks. We finished
the unit with individual conferences through which students re-
flected on the use of the elements and principles that they com-
mitted to use in the works.
