In May, grade four students looked back at all that they learned this
school year, and applied the skills gained comprehensively. They read
music symbols, played in a band, and aimed to recognize a variety of
sounds. One may say they are in great music shape now!
Next, students went on further developing their listening skills, as well as
their appreciation for music. Those were done by listening to a number of
compositions from different genres, e.g. Sting’s “Fragile”, Rihanna’s “Four,
Five Seconds”, Christopher Tin’s “Baba Yetu”. All of that led to construc-
tive classroom discussion and new discoveries regarding powerful energy
of music. Students used that vigor to respond to music with movement
and, afterwards, they, what's more, developed several complex choreog-
raphies.
The highlight of the month was definitely working with Mirko Knezevic, a
choreographer who shared his latest project with us: making choreogra-
phies for the well-known choir Viva Vox. Complementing our theme of
How Do We Express Ourselves, this performance was a perfect fit for us
and a great way to enrich students’ learning experience.
I am looking forward to see soon to be former four graders in August
again, when they will, without a doubt, lead the school as great role models for
all younger students!
