MS. LJUDMILA JANICIJEVIC

Dear Parents,

Grade two students opened their school year by reviewing what they had learned last year, sharing the
highlights with their new friends and starting to create new music stories.

The introductory unit Powerful stories invite and inspire creative interpretations motivated students to communi-
cate ideas, feelings and experiences through music. It also made them explore a musical response to a
narrated story, both individually and collectively, in addition to sharing performances with each other
and giving constructive criticism. What students liked the most, however, was expressing one or more
moods or feelings in a music composition, in addition to creating music for different purposes.

Grade two students played classroom instruments to accompany their new singing tunes: “How We
Do,” “Sing a Little Song,” “Little Shell,” and “Rock Boom Bag.”
It is worth mentioning that our music library is now richer for two new books, “Really Awful Musicians”
and “Waking Up Is Hard To Do.” Students enjoyed reading them!
I am pleased to say grade two students are getting back in good music shape. They seem to be ready to
create new ideas and forms for their authentic music journey, taking place next month and bringing their
favorite unit How We Express Ourselves.
