Dear Parents,
In the previous weeks, students finished with the unit of inquiry ‘How The World
Works – Materials’, as a connection to their learning in the homeroom.
This was a very successful unit because the students truly enjoyed learning about
changing paper in order to create their sculptures. Students were making paper ma-
che glue by themselves, creating the forms out of paper, painting them and finaliz-
ing with construction paper and yarn. We have seen many different sculptures. As a
part of student initiated inquiry, grade 1B students created a big snowman out of
paper while working as a group.
Both grade one groups were making predictions regarding the materials they used
in class We made notes of their predictions and steps they needed for creating the
paper mache sculptures, as true artists-scientists.
We hope that you will enjoy seeing the students’ work at the Upper School.
