Dear Parents,
We would like to invite you to our Winter Concert, taking place on December 17 at 18:00, at the Up-
per School gym.
The program, Somos el Barco, is based on Henrik Ibsen’s fairytale Peer Gynt. The story tells about the
life of Peer Gynt, from boyhood to adulthood, focusing on his journey back home. Peer Gynt is free
spirited and open to challenges. His thirst for exploration leads him to a new-found confidence.
Kindergarten students will contribute significantly to the on-stage journey, by performing their favor-
ite tune “Flight of the Bumble Bee”. Having previously enjoyed the original theme by Nikolai Rimsky-
Korsakov, they will now perform a very special vocal arrangement by Bobby Mc Ferin at the concert.
Peer Gynt will be portrayed by Veljko Nikolic, a.k.a. Papa Nick, a famous Serbian percussionist and
architect, who has already supported ISB projects for over 8 years. The concert has one more special
guest – Mirko Knezevic, a professional choreographer who has also supported our school’s projects
for 3 years.
The PYP learner profile attributes are promoted through the concert. Our students prove to be risk-
takers, as they take part in various musical styles. The beauty of languages and cultures is communicat-
ed through sounds, music and actions.
Please enjoy our celebration of unity and friendship at the concert. We find the story of belonging and
learning from one another very inspiring and we can not wait to share it with you!
We are also pleased to say how much we enjoyed our guest musician Mr. Keith Dunn, in November.
He is a famous blues harmonica player, singer, producer, and songwriter. Mr Dunn has been playing
blues music for over 30 years. He is the founder of record label DeeTone Records. Mr. Dunn was
invited by Grade 2 in connection with their Unit of Inquiry, How we express ourselves, to play his
harmonica and sing some lively tunes. Our students had a pleasure of listening to one of the true mas-
ters of this music genre.
