Dear Parents,

January was an action-packed month in Music class. Students returned from the winter break recharged
and ready to learn.
We recognized Mozart’s birthday through various activities. Highlights from the famous Milos Forman’s
movie “Amadeus” were watched, revealing many new interesting facts about the master composer. Stu-
dents were also keen to watch BBC’s animated version of the “Magic Flute” and Ingmar Bergman opera
version. Those activities provided inspiring discussion and helped them learn about opera. Students
showed great interest and appreciation for Mozart’s work.
In addition to music theory, singing skills were mastered. It was done through two-parts singing - “We
Will Figure It Out,” “Mister Frosty Winter” and “New Year Resolution.”
Grade Two students also played percussion instruments. Focus was on proper use of the instruments.
They began creating different rhythmic patterns, and practiced to stop and go with conductor Que.
Songs of the month came from Mozart’s masterpiece “Magic
Flute” (“Queen of the Night” and “Papageno”), but we also enjoyed
“Little Night Music” and “Turkish Rondo.”

Next month we will further develop our Percussion Band’s repertoire
with more special tunes and Papa Nik’s help.
Don’t forget, “Somos el barco” is still sailing…☺
