French

Dear fifth grade parents,

Here is the fifth newsletter for the French class in order to keep you informed about
the things we have been learning during the last period.

After practicing various strategies we use to persuade others, the students created
two different crisis situations. They worked in groups and decided to write scripts for
two different films. The purpose of this activity was for them to show their under-
Dubravka Kostanjsek standing of persuasion as such and to practice French in a collaborative and creative
French Teacher way. Right now, we are about to start filming these stories and when the films are
edited and ready, we will show them to other students who also learn French. This
will also be the end of our global simulation project.

When we wrap this up, we will dedicate some time to reviewing the topics and struc-
tures we have covered so far through reading, writing, listening and speaking activi-
ties.

It will be my pleasure to see you at any time to discuss your child’s work and pro-
gress.

Thank you for your time and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Serbian as a Foreign Language

Upon completing written presentations of their islands, the students focused on
oral fluency. They presented their island in class and had an opportunity to answer
the questions from an audience – their peers. Then, we worked on presenting our-
selves. The students developed questions that they would use in a dialogue when
meeting another person for the first time. The questions are about age, family, oc-
cupation, hobbies and some favorite things. Learning all these questions was chal-
Ivana Jovanovic lenging, as there is no pattern, and they contain a lot of new words. Thanks to their
Serbian language Teacher
enthusiasm, the students not only earned all questions, but practiced and per-
formed conversations between themselves. Well done!
