Spanish

Dear first grade parents,

Welcome to our sixth Spanish newsletter! As always in this letter you will find out all
the exciting learning activities taking place in the Lower School Spanish class.
During the month of March, the grade one students worked on the Family unit where
they could learn how to name some family members in Spanish. While they were
learning to sing a song “Mi familia,” they practiced new vocabulary. They also learned Sonja Jecmenica
Spanish Teacher
how to say and write some basic information about their family members (name, age,
nationality and expressions for presenting someone) by making a poster - a family
tree.

After the grade one students had successfully completed the family unit, in April they
started to work on the Mini-beasts unit. They enjoyed drawing and naming these small
creatures; insects. Currently they are learning to describe them, identify their body
parts, (body, head, legs, wings, antennae, eyes), and to identify how many legs or
wings they have. Through their descriptions they review numbers and color and size
vocabulary. Also, they are learning to say what some insects can do (to jump, to walk,
to fly). This exploration occurs through drawing, watching short movie presentations
of insects and interactive games.
