ISB Lower School Specialists’ Newsletter

French

Dear second grade parents,

Here is the sixth newsletter for the French class in order to keep you informed
about the things we have been learning during the last period.

Since you’ve last heard from us, we started our Unit about Healthy Habits. So
Dubravka Kostanjsek far, we have introduced vocabulary linked to food, meals, daily routines and
French Teacher
activities and have been discussing healthy and unhealthy choices. We have
also been trying to include physical activity (morning workout and games).
The students will create a balanced menu, as well as a balanced schedule for
one whole day, using the knowledge gained throughout this Unit of inquiry.

Our plan is to finish this Unit after the holidays, and then we will move on to
our next Unit, which will be about cities and villages.

Thank you for your time and please feel free to contact me if you have any
questions.

EAL

High Beginners/Low Intermediate Group

This month we have started supporting the trans-disciplinary theme Who We Are –
the Health unit, and its central idea: Making balanced choices about our daily rou-
tines enables us to have a healthy lifestyle.
Divna Stakic
EAL Teacher We practiced naming different fruits and vegetables, as well as describing them using
present tense. Supporting the lines of inquiry, we talked about our daily habits and
routines, and the importance of making balanced choices. We continued our focus on
simple/compound sentences, and writing conventions: capital letters and basic punc-
tuation. In addition, EAL students created their own menus for a healthy food restau-
rant. They also practiced making a polite request, and ordering food in a restaurant.
EAL students enjoyed role-playing various situations in our class.
