Spanish

Dear third grade parents,

Welcome to our sixth Spanish newsletter! As always in this letter you will find out all
the exciting learning activities taking place in the Lower School Spanish class.

After learning about food, shopping and restaurant vocabulary and expressions, the
grade three students began exploring the animal world. They started to talk about the Sonja Jecmenica
animal classification according to different criteria (wild or domestic animal, dangerous Spanish Language Teacher

or not dangerous animal, can fly or not) As everyone had different criteria for the clas-
sification, we decided to classify them firstly according to their habitat. By answering
the question ¿Dónde vive? (Where does it live?), we learned that three basic group of
animals are terrestrial, aquatic and aerial animals (animales terrestres, acuáticos y áe-
reos). Students enjoyed drawing and learning the names of different domestic and wild
animals. After classifying animals by habitat, we are planning to move to grouping them
according to physical appearance. Through various communicative activities and
games, we will continue to practice the communication and writing skills by describing
animals, as well as by reading and listening to descriptions of them. By the end of the
unit the grade three students will be ready to create their own animal encyclopedia.
