Art

In the previous weeks, students finished their work on the single subject unit of inquiry
‘How the World Works – Elements and Principles.’ This unit was designed to help them
collaborate within the Exhibition groups and therefore included reflection at the end of
every class.

When children were ready, they started working on visual images for their presentations

while choosing materials to work with and artists to respond to. We moved on to the Ex-
hibition unit in the same manner. The Exhibition unit is a unit that summarizes students’
learning. Therefore, students have the choice of using every artist that they learned about
during this school year. Due to their needs, we added two more artists, Keith Haring and
Roy Lichtenstein. Students continued to work in their groups and to collaborate on cre-
ating the pieces of art. Since this unit relies heavily on collaboration, children had a class
on giving each other positive feedback.

We hope you enjoyed the Spring Fair and had time to stop by to see all the ‘students’
sculptures on display. Here are a few images from Saturday, April 12.

Grade 5A and 5B students have classes on Mondays.
