Spanish

Dear fifth grade parents,

Welcome to our sixth Spanish newsletter! As always in this letter you will find out all
the exciting learning activities taking place in the Lower School Spanish class.
After successfully completing the Beliefs and Values unit, where the grade five stu-
dents were focused on improving their writing skills, last couple of weeks they spent
Sonja Jecmenica
Spanish Language working on their reading skills. The students read a book in Spanish named “Las
Olimpiadas Acuáticas”, where the purpose was to improve a reading comprehension
skills, pronunciation and Spanish accent. We started with the reading and writing
rules in Spanish language (orthography), so the students were obligated to apply
them in all communicative and writing activities. They could stay on track involved
all the time, because the book is followed by the after and pre-reading activities.
Also, students could expand their vocabulary by learning the new words from the
book and by using them in the context of an interactive communication in class.
After reading a book, we started to work on the clarification of some important lexi-
cal and grammatical meaning (differences in use of following words: muy and mu-
cho, bueno and bien, ser and estar, por/para/porque) through various communica-
tive, writing and listening activities. While working on the book, the grade five stu-
dents continued to practice the correct use of Spanish regular verbs in present
tense.
All students demonstrated great enthusiasm for Spanish language learning and ac-
quisition. They are encouraged to keep up the good work until the end of the school
year.
