Dear Grade 2 Parents,
Welcome to the Spanish Newsletter for October!
We initiated the month concluding Sharing the planet unit and we finished our Animal book. The students were really proud
of their final project and they enjoyed reading each other´s books and participating in animal quiz. The beautiful books with
descriptions of wide range of animals in Spanish are exposed in our classroom and you are very welcome to come to see
them!
Afterwards, we proceeded with our second connecting unit for this school year entitled How we express ourselves: Provo-
cations, within which we are focusing on art, the shapes that are used in art works and emotions that those works provoke
in us. Through various handouts, videos (Barney el camion, Las figuras geométricas), and the song Las figuras geométri-
cas (through which the students had to guess the shape and show and say its form using fingers), the students learned
vocabulary on a wide variety of shapes (el triángulo, el rectángulo, el círculo, el cuadrado, el trapecio, el rombo, el óvalo
and others) and revised the vocabulary on colors. In addition, they practiced to describe different shapes using the adjec-
tives of form and size (redondito, oval, rectangular, pequeño, grande, paralelo) and stating the number and length of the
sides of shapes (largo, corto, igual). The students made their figures (robots, presents, houses, etc.) based on different
shapes.
The last week of October is traditionally designated for our Halloween celebration. The Halloween excitement has also
been transferred to our classroom and we have played games such as El juego de las sillas and Los monstrous bailando
as well as the Halloween bingo. Moreover, we made a wonderful Red de arañas (A spider web).
In coming weeks we are going to learn about how different emotions are expressed in Spanish. I hope that the students
will keep on working with the same enthusiasm next month!
