Third graders were focused and determined as they worked on a
challenging task of reading notes and playing them on mouth pian-
os, xylophones, and drums. In addition, while playing mouth pian-
os, students worked on finger technique and positioning. To better
understand and analyze tempo changes and harmony, we used
tunes such as "Gloria," "Gong XI," and "Vuelie." Extending our
skills, we used Beethoven's "Ode to Joy"in order to come up with
our own creative solutions and create accompaniment that would
include appropriate melodic and rhythmic patterns. Next, we will
focus on phrasing, dynamic changes, and combining singing and
playing instruments.
