Grade two students were working on the single subject unit of inquiry
‘How The World Works – Elements and Principles’ as a connection to
their learning in the homeroom.
The goal for this unit is for children to continue to learn about repre-
senting real space. We do this through learning about representing
shapes one after another (overlapping) and to start learning about hori-
zon line. While discovering what a horizon line was, students observed
the space around the school yard and the Impressionist artists’ works
to learn about the use of space, color, and shape. We split the learning
experiences into manageable parts so students were able to practice
representing overlapping shapes and the importance of changing color
for this while painting. Also, students were creating their clay projects
on which they engraved the landscapes while practicing representing
horizon lines while drawing on their forms.
