Grade 2 students continued practicing reading and writing.
Upon completion of unit about animals, we began learning
about feelings and sensations. Students worked on simple sen-
tences and practiced describing feelings. With Halloween ap-
proaching, we used related vocabulary to create a booklet and
used the characters to express feelings in third person. Then,
we created haunted house posters and used them as a tool for
practicing place prepositions and oral fluency.
As a connection to the Provocations unit, we learned a poem
Lav, by D. Radovic, a Serbian children’s poet. This is a poem
about a strange looking, scary lion who disappeared in an un-
expected way. Students concluded this project by writing a
short reflection and discussing whether the poem was funny,
scary, interesting… or something else.
