Dear Grade 2 parents,
Welcome to our first Newsletter for Spanish for the second semester. As usual, I am happy to
inform you about the activities taking place in our Spanish classroom.
At this point, Grade 2 students are learning how to express the weather conditions and how we
should adapt to them. For that purpose, we have acquired a range of weather expressions such
as hace frío/calor/viento/sol, está despejado/nublado, llueve/nieva, hay niebla/tormenta. We have
been talking about different weather features during different seasons. The students have been
acting as weather reporters informing the class each day what the weather is like. For that pur-
pose we reviewed the names of the days of the week and the months of the year and learned
the time prepositions antes de y después de. The students were reminded of the poem Bote,
botero, which helped them remember the months of the year. Besides that, the students ac-
quired the vocabulary of clothes items and accessories to be able to talk about what they wear
during different seasons and weather conditions. We practiced making time clauses using the
conjunction cuando as well as the verbs such as llevar, ponerse, quitarse (ex. Cuando hace frío,
me pongo el abrigo, En verano, me quito la bufanda y me pongo el bikini). The students dressed
up their models (dolls or illustrated models) and presented them to the class.
We will continue to work on this unit until the February break.
Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
