Dear Parents,
As a part of the Movement Composition strand of the P.E. program this year,
the third graders have observed a variety of videos displaying gymnastics per-
formances in floor gymnastics, balance beam, uneven bars and rings. Discus-
sions that occurred after the viewing brought up interesting impressions about
the difficulty and finesse of the elements being performed, the importance of
safety and hard work, as well as the steadiness and seriousness of gymnasts
in general. Students also noticed the graceful flow of the motion and its contri-
bution to good choreography.
After watching the clips, we practiced a variety of floor gymnastics such as
different rolls, stances, turns and balances. We tried to come up with some
original and interesting ideas to link them in order to construct own choreogra-
phy. We focused on controlling our body movements during the performance,
as well as using different levels and directions while traveling through the
space.
