Dear Grade 3 parents,

It is a pleasure to welcome you back and inform you how eagerly and productively the Grade 3

Spanish students started the new school semester.

Within our connecting Unit How we express ourselves: Imagination, we studied the popular

Spanish fable La Ratita Presumida and focused on the activities related to the story comprehen-
sion. We saw different versions of the story in both written and audiovisual format. The students

acquired the vocabulary on different animals that appear as characters and the sounds they
make. We reinforced the concepts taught by playing the games La granjera and Se cierra la

cajita.

Additionally, we reconstructed the story and by using word cards we practiced the word order in

a sentence. Afterwards, we transformed the fable and made a plot for a dramatic play with our
own characters and action. At that point we discussed the specific features and structure of a

play (role of narrator, dialogs, punctuation marks used in dialogs, effects of repetitions). Also, we
learned the phrases that are typically used to begin and end the stories in Spanish (Érase una

vez/Había una vez, Colorín, Colorado, este cuento se ha acabado). We learned popular songs
Al pasar la barca and Quisiera ser tan alto como la luna and adapted them to our play.


The students are currently practicing the dialogues and making costumes for the performance of
the play. We are all truly enjoying this rehearsals as well as the students´ creativity and imagina-

tion.
