Grade four students were working on the unit of inquiry ‘How We
Organize Ourselves – Technology’ as a connection to their learning
in the homeroom.
Students have started learning about how technology meets our
needs in the classroom and how it influenced famous artists’ think-
ing in the 19th century. Students conducted their own color experi-
ments to prove the Impressionists’ artists’ color theory. The goal for
this unit is for students to come up with an understanding that
through the complementary pairs, yellow and purple, red and green,
and blue and orange they can create the biggest contrast, while go-
ing through series of experiments to prove the theory. Students
painted and created collage projects while working in groups. We
used cameras for taking pictures of their works and Photoshop for
viewing the works in black and white to discover the contrast.
