During January, Kindergarten students worked on the PYP
unit Senses. We discussed the role of the senses in dance
and drama performance. It was great that the students came
up with an idea that each performance has an audience and
performers; therefore we observed the role of our senses from
these two different perspectives. We tried out a lot of unusual
things. We danced without music and shared feelings and
thoughts of a “quiet dancer,” while the audience tried to guess
the main idea of the “quiet dance.” Then, we danced and ob-
served dances with our eyes closed. Kindergarteners were re-
al critical thinkers – they concluded that senses help us feel
better, but are not essential if we are performers; while from
the perspective of an observer some senses are irreplaceable.
