In this period Kindergarten children received guided support in gaining liter-


acy skills. We played bingo games aimed at expanding the children’s vo-
cabulary and developing reading skills. Labels were made to identify each


object or animal and the children engaged in various activities to match the
label to the object. The final objective was to assist the children in being


able to read the label independently of the objects. Their attention was
brought to beginning and ending sounds and to digraphs that produce sh,


ch and th sounds. The children wrote a number of words that they had
identified and used them to make sentences of their own construction, thus


developing oral language as well. They read books book at home and re-
sponded with drawings and sentences. which they then read aloud to the


teacher in class.
