Dear Parents,
At the beginning of the unit “Small Apparatus Games” our youngest stu-
dents were exploring different safe ways to handle hula-hoops and jump
ropes. We worked on improving our manipulative skills and movement co-
ordination.
We learned how to hold the rope and how to swing and spin it. Our young-
est students put in a lot of effort to skip a rope around the gym. We also
tried to jump over a rope, holding our feet together. The children have be-
come more successful in each try, and we will continue to practice these
skills.
Pre-Kindergarten students “trained” their hoops to spin and roll on the floor
the way they wanted them to go. Hula-hoops, placed on the floor in a vari-
ety of patterns, helped us to enhance our foot coordination while running,
skipping, hopping and jumping through them.
We learned a new game with hula-hoops, called Husky Wants A Home,
which helps students improve their space awareness and agility. We all
enjoyed playing it together!
