Dear Parents,
We continued our creative journey by exploring and developing music skills and appreciating the art
of music. In October we focused on developing our ensemble skills and our audience awareness.
Performance of various rhythmic patterns at a steady tempo was continued. Playing with a partner
helped us understand steady beat and rhythm. We increased the length and difficulty of rhythmic
patterns as we played different classroom instruments, including bongos and xylophones. In addi-
tion, we practiced a steady beat and ostinato.
Inspired with Edvard Grieg and his famous Peer Gynt story, we created our version of a sailing
boat, full of mysterious melodies and beats as we rehearsed for the Winter Concert.
We continued working on our existing repertoire, focusing on dynamic changes, accompaniment,
and variations. This helped us think even more about the Winter Concert, where fifth graders plan
on taking a leading role.
Lastly, we also introduced dance as part of our class routine. Students are now working on move-
ment patterns to accompany the singing tunes we are currently working on.
