Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
Here is the second newsletter for the French class in order to keep you informed about the things
we have been learning since the beginning of this school year.
After finishing the Power Point presentation of our imaginary island and its history, and sharing it
with the LS community at the Assembly on November 3rd, we have started creating and describing
the characters who live there. All of this work is part of a project called “The Global Simulation”,
where the students create a whole new world, choosing a place that they have to describe, imagining
new identities, making rules for that new community and interacting throughout the whole project.
Our characters need to start a new community, build houses, organize themselves and live together.
This is a technique which will help us develop all of the competences necessary to quality communi-
cation (reading and listening comprehension, speaking and writing), while learning the vocabulary
and the structures needed to accomplish our tasks. This engagement is a way of developing a high
level of creativity, since students are the authors of the whole story. Right now, the students are writ-
ing texts to introduce themselves, that is - their characters.
For Halloween, we reviewed some of the vocabulary linked to that topic.
It will be my pleasure to see you all soon and discuss with you your child’s work and progress in
French.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
