Dear Parents,
Kindergarten students started their Sports Gymnastics unit this January. We work on our
body control, strength, flexibility and balance while practicing different gymnastics ele-
ments.
It was of great importance for us to spend some time at the very beginning of the unit talk-
ing about safety. Students realized that they can help to have a safe environment by putting
safety mats on the ground before practicing as well as through assisting their partners by
checking on their position.
We learned how to put our body in the proper position to successfully and safely perform
different rolls on mats, such as the log roll, and forward and backward rolls. We practiced
how to keep the body still in a “bridge” and “candle” position and how to swing in a
“bracelet” pose.
Apart from working hard to improve our performance, we all also had a chance to see the
world “up-side-down.” Kindergarteners practiced keeping their body still in the tripod
stand (with hands and forehead forming a triangle on the mat, maintaining balance while
knees are on the elbows). After that, we were ready to practice a headstand (with hands
and forehead forming the same position and legs stretched up, above the head).
Students truly put a lot of effort into successfully completing all these elements. It was a
great fun for them to explore what shapes and positions their body can make.
