Dear Grade 4 Parents,

We are already approaching our third month of the school year, and there has been a lot of enriching learning
experiences taking place in Spanish classroom during October.

After finishing our unit Heroes and villains, we started a new, stand-alone unit, in which we focus on instruction-

al language used in everyday life. By watching videos, carrying out matching activities and online quizzes, the
students acquired new vocabulary features on kitchen utensils and appliances and learned how to explain their
purpose in Spanish. Also, talking about the use of these items, the students strengthen their vocabulary with

kitchen verbs such as servir, echar, batir, verter, cocer, hornear, freír, etc. We are reinforcing this knowledge
preparing the choreography for the song Soy una taza (a song on kitchen utensils and appliances performed by
imitating their shape). Later, we will go to concentrate on the instructional language of how to use handbooks

for use of kitchen appliances where we are going to introduce formal and informal structures in singular of im-
perative mode. We are planning to consolidate those forms, especially in writing by elaborating instructions, for

our own inventions as well as composing different recipes.

The students for whom this is the first year of learning Spanish are currently working on food vocabulary having
learnt the names of various fruits, vegetables and meals. At the moment students are engaged in reading and

interpreting menus and restaurant dialogues, practicing with plastic food toys, likes and dislikes boards and
flash cards.

Furthermore, on Monday, 27th of October, in cooperation with the language team and Grade 4 homeroom

teachers, in order to support the students´ learning in their current unit on Dance, in Spanish room we orga-
nized a workshop on flamenco, where the students had the opportunity to learn about the origin and purpose of
the most popular Spanish dance. We also practiced the basic steps of flamenco. It was a really exciting and
enriching experience not only for Spanish students but for the whole Grade 4.

Additionally, please note that the last days of October were traditionally set aside for the activities related to
Halloween. In accordance with our current unit associated with kitchen, we followed the recipes instructions in

Spanish and made some Halloween specialties such as savory and sweet witch fingers.

I hope that we will carry on with positive Halloween energy during November.
