During November Grade 5 students continued to learn about
houses, rooms and furniture. However, our focus was on the liv-
ing room, kitchen and children’s room. We practiced preposi-
tions and used compound sentences to describe pictures of var-
ious rooms. The most valuable activities were related to describ-
ing messy, children’s rooms. These activities required students
to connect the unit vocabulary with words and phrases learned
in the past. At the beginning it was challenging, as the students
lacked in self-confidence. This was a great opportunity for stu-
dents to realize how much they really know and to reveal forgot-
ten knowledge. We will continue to engage in similar activities in
order to practice using lateral thinking.
