After sharing with classmates what they knew about Track and Field
events, first graders decided to take part in some of them, so we worked
on improving our abilities in running and jumping.
Starting on a designated signal and running for short dashes from differ-
ent positions helped us to increase our speed and agility. Through a vari-
ety of games that required us to run for an extended time, with increased
heart rate, we practiced our cardio-respiratory stamina.
Students were given opportunities to practice running over hurdles, and
even though many of them had doubts about completing a run, they all
faced the challenge bravely and truly enjoyed it.
Relay races with a baton were great fun and a challenge for all first grad-
ers. They displayed good team spirit by running their fastest, cheering for
their team and supporting other runners to complete the race.
Practicing the basics of broad and long jump techniques, we worked on
improving our jumping abilities too. We were counting the number of our
jumps needed to reach the length of the world’ long jump record and tried
to beat our own record in every attempt.
Stay healthy through sports!
